7/26/21 Among other things, Adriel has moved

 Dear Family,

This week brought big changes.  Yet, I will start at the beginning.

Sunday Bobby and Adriel headed out for an adventurous backpacking trip from Summit Lake to Crater lake.  They hiked about 85 miles and by the time they were done they Yogi Beared accidentally.  Let me explain.  Almost done with their hike they were near a campground and wanted directions to our rendezvous.  They popped out of the woods to encounter a lovely family that was enjoying their camping spot.  One look at Adriel and Bobby and the offer of water was made.  Bobby politely declined but upon their insistence, they gratefully accepted ice water.  Then food was offered.  No, they didn’t need food.  They chatted a while and then money was offered.  Goodness!  Bobby was later reading a blog from one of their new trail friends.  In the writing, Yogi Bearing was mentioned.  Here is the definition – “Without asking – just by looking destitute – having people offer food and or supplies.”  Yes, Bobby and Adriel looked that bad.  While they were waiting for me to arrive another person gave them pizza just because they looked hungry.

Monday I enjoyed Elliot & Grace’s Bridal Shower.  Having Elliot there made the evening entertaining.  His job was to announce the presents and who they were from.  There was a snag – because of their millennial status, cursive was a puzzle that could not be solved.  Adela translated and we older folks learned of our secret written language.  Elliot did say they would work on this skill.  The crowd shouted out that they have two weeks (before the wedding).  Oohing and ahhing weren’t enough.  Out came the thought of, maybe a dad joke – but, “I can’t remember the joke Scott told me because maybe it wasn’t that funny.”  We were a fun, jolly crowd and loved Elliot's sense of humor.  Scott gave the joke line by line and it was indeed funny.  Elliot was going to do another but, “Joyce said no.”

Seth has worked consistently and faithfully this entire summer.  He takes his job seriously and I am glad.  He also mowed the lawn and held down the fort while most of us were away.  Seth helped Adriel move with his muscles.

In the process of deciding what to take with her, Adriel retrieved a box labeled “Adriel for later.”  It included our old dishes (from our wedding registry), our old silverware and some thrift store finds of cooking bowls/utensils, etc.  One surprise was old silver from Bobby's grandparents.  That was too special for now so it goes back under the house.

I did have a very low point this week.  I found out that I am incapable of love if there is a smell.  This is also why I do not like dogs.  I felt very sad that I am not the kind of person who can overlook this.  Bobby and I have decided that I won’t drive him back from camping ever again.  Also – and this is truly horrible.  Bobby drives the speed limit.  I have no more words.

Adriel will never be “Stupid in love”.  I’ll admit Bobby and I used to be crazy for each other.  We would stare at each other and smile.  We were so nauseating.  Adriel researches before making any decision.  She is not stupid in any way.  The entire trip home Adriel did want to see her boyfriend.  We got home too late.  The next day, when she found out her boyfriend had been exposed to COVID she put on the brakes.  She would not get close until a test confirmed he was COVID-free.  I am impressed and said so.  Bobby and I would have not cared at all (still wouldn’t).  In celebration of this revelation, Bobby went to kiss my neck making me squirm.  Adriel thought that was sweet but the joke was on Bobby.  He jerked away rapidly for he had met his nemesis again, sunscreen saturated skin is Bobby's repellant.

Two days after Adriel came home from her trip she was all moved out.  She spent the night there.  Her old room is empty.

Sunday afternoon, after not seeing her all day, Bobby asked if anyone had heard from her.  I said, “Well, we can’t assume she’s dead anymore.”  Seth came back, “We can, . . . . but it’s unfounded.”  So, this begins a new chapter of our life.  Not knowing Adriel’s whereabouts is going to have to be OK.

A gardening lesson.  The sunflowers have grown and blossomed.  They grow taller than me in less than three months.  This is amazing.  Bobby was asking, “Did you plant these?”  My friends and family, I just throw the seeds out in the fall when the sunflower heads are drooping.  God does the rest.  His works are amazing.  We may not see the fruits of our labor.  We may not know how God is working but he is.  Don’t be discouraged – fruit may not show until you are gone.  If you live in obedience to God he will do the work.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 And even so the harvest can be more than we can ever imagine.  I love this song by Ray Boltz called Thank You https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=AwrWnKLGv_1gZHIAtwxjmolQ;_ylu=Y29sbwNncTEEcG9zAzEEdnRpZANDMjAxM18xBHNlYwNzYw--?p=thank+you+for+giving+to+the+lord+I+Have+a+life+that+was+changed&back=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yahoo.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dthank%2Byou%2Bfor%2Bgiving%2Bto%2Bthe%2Blord%2BI%2BHave%2Ba%2Blife%2Bthat%2Bwas%2Bchanged%26vm%3Dr%26type%3Dsearch_1%26param1%3D4739268%26param2%3D225574308%26param3%3D55%26param4%3D404029900%26hsimp%3Dyhs-sbsearch%26hspart%3Dprodege%26ei%3DUTF-8&fr=yhs-prodege-sbsearch&turl=https%3A%2F%2Ftse2.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DOVP._st6qhHE8zCQPxq5ZukkOwHgFo%26amp%3Bpid%3DApi%26w%3D148%26h%3D78%26c%3D7&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dd-3BJrG79IA&tit=Thank+You+For+Giving+To+The+Lord&l=334&vid=61f57edf67abcf2cea21f2b536f75339&sigr=JjlEgW_sUnMw&sigb=yd6IXgif_LLT&sigt=6Q7IvljG28WV&sigi=apxaONx8Yi_z&hspart=prodege&hsimp=yhs-sbsearch
